Music is the pleasure the human mind experiences from counting without being aware that it is counting.
Gottfried Leibniz

Numbers
They have always consumed me. I remember counting steps as a child. Pavers in the walk way, steps across a continent, turns through the maze that mortals call life. Always calculating, always counting, always figuring the distance from my goal. As immortals, time is merely a constraint of our mind. Unlike mortals it does not grow shorter with it’s passing. It actually grows to a length un-imaginable to one locked into eternity on a finite scale.

We formed numbers before language. Numbers were a construct of the reality we found ourselves within, language was our means to voice our mere perceptions of said reality. When you truly understand this difference you will be another step closer to our creed, our manifest of existence… our very purpose! Numbers are the representations of the patterns for existence. Patterns unaltered by age, race, experience or your petty prejudices. They were and are an extension of reality not unlike our own kind. Present, unalterable and inevitable. We numbered the days of rising light in an age long lived before the first fuels burned for such a purpose. We counted the days of deluge and flooding, washing away our stores and kin into the wastelands we feared and had not yet conqured. And, Yes, we counted the number of mortals borne to our clans, tribes and nations in an age when a nation was made up of a group of like minded individuals not the spanless shorelines we watched ebb and flow with the passing of the ages. This was where the concept of 'one' came from. Imagine an age where the very survival of a race is centered on the individual. As the earlieast, and most successful of the bi-peds emerging from the ooze of what you call creation, imagine the importance of one adept at fire starting, fishing, herding and harvesting…? Your minds even now recoil from such a thought because of the barbaric means you choose to be educated ,or worse, educate your young. Little thought is given to an age of hunter gatherers starving on the edge of an existence long dead to your oral or written histories. Yet you follow the sycophants of non-reason to an age for more horrifying!

Dismiss my oratory with the indifference borne from ages of evasion, hysteria and mysticism. Numbers were our first link to reality as our conscious minds grew and they were the first and only bridge of commonality we and mortals still share.
